Pilot Program

Application and Review Process

Pilots are currently on a two year funding cycle, but can be submitted for one year of funding. Applications for the next round of funding are not currently being solicited at this time. Researchers interested in submitting pilot grant proposals to be considered for the next cycle should contact the Center administrative office (1-100 BSB, 335-7744). Application forms and guidelines are available for downloading on this web site (Pilot Grant Forms), or can be obtained from the administrative office. Written reviews are obtained from one internal and one external reviewer. Submission of the abstract of the proposal in February, 2008, will enable the selection of appropriate internal and external reviewers and expedite the review process. Internal reviewers from the University of Iowa (regardless of Center Membership) and external reviewers from other universities will be chosen by the relation of their area of expertise to a given project. The organization of this review process will be as follows. Following receipt of the external reviews, the Internal Pilot and Feasibility Review Committee will meet to review and score the applications. Formal written recommendations will be presented to the Executive Committee, who will make the final decision on funding.
